While it is always best to eat produce that is fresh and organic, this isn’t always possible for everyone. So being, we have put together a list of those fruits/vegetables that have the greatest and least risk of being contaminated by pesticides. While washing produce is good, many pesticides can be absorbed into the tissue of the plants and cannot always be rinsed away.
Produce with the most pesticide residue (from most to least contaminated).
Produce from the dirty dozen list should always be eaten organic, since farmers frequently apply pesticides to these.
Produce with the lowest levels of pesticide residue (from least to most contaminated). The produce in this list can be eaten from non-organic growers if needed as they aren’t likely to be a source of significant pesticide contamination.
